Subhash Kapoor’s 2013 satire Jolly LLB was the surprise hit of the year. Featuring Arshad Warsi and Boman lrani as lawyers fighting a hit and run case, the story gave a clever, witty take on the judicial system of the country. The film’s sequel Jolly LLB 2 releases today and Akshay Kumar takes up the role of a struggling lawyer who finds a case that changes his life forever.
Jolly LLB 2 2017 Movie Review
Jolly LLB 1 or Jolly LLB 2 Actually; let us simplify it for you. Arshad Warsi’s lawyer with a questionable moral code or Akshay Kumar’s take on the same but with double the star power, Akshay probably the most prolific actor of our times, is back with his first film of the year and February has just about kicked in. Not one to let grass grow under his feet (and the fact that he has three more films lined up for the year), Akshay has released the second iteration of this legal drama already. To cut to the chase, Akshay plays a small-town lawyer Jagdeeshwar Mishra ask Jolly who believes money is the power is the answer to all world’s ills. He would go to any length and do any jugged to win a case.
Subhash Kapoor returns to his hit film Jolly LLB, he replaces Arshad Warsi with Akshay Kumar. The movie revolved around Jolly, a lawyer who is eager to fight a case, but is stuck in his role of an assistant to a renowned Nawab/lawyer. Jolly in a bid to make his own dreams come true and make his father proud ends up ruining Hina’s (Sayani Gupta) life.
On the face of it, apna Jolly is a novice indulging in petty crimes because he knows the loopholes in the law. However, these are just asides and not the main premise of courtroom drama, which in many ways follows the template of the 2013 prequel, Jolly LLB.Akshay changes shades from crooked to straight, like a chameleon. In top-form, he puts up a perfect display of a street-smart lawyer who has not read legal tomes but who has instead picked up tips from courtroom corridors to become Jolly LLB. Huma and Annu are also compelling enough. It is the fine display of histrionics by all these refined actors, which makes the movie, worth seeing
First half Hours
The first half of the film tries to give you a sneak peek at Jolly’s life and shows how he finally lands up fighting a tough legal battle at the cost of losing his job at the Nawab’s legal office and his dream lawyer’s chamber. While Akshay rules the screen space, the supporting characters bring life to this otherwise predictable.
Let me clarify that Akshay Kumar (Jolly aka Jagdishwar Mishra) may be the star of Jolly LLB 2, but it is characters of Saurabh Shukla (Justice Sunderlal Tripathi), Sanjay Mishra (Guruji) and Anu Kapoor ( Sachin Kantilal Mathur) who tickle your funny bone.
Closer to the interval Subhash Kapoor gives you enough twists to keep you hooked to watch the second half.”
Akshay has made entertainers with a message as his hallmark. Whether it was Rustom or Airlift, the films portrayed the star as an everyman who never goes against the system but still ensures justice is done. Jolly LLB 2 is a big step in the same direction.
